ADDIS ABABA – The Montgomery County in United States has passed proclamation to observe the Month of March 2020 as Adwa Victory Month, according to various sources. This year is the third time the country celebrates the month under the same theme after the first in 2016 and the second in 2017.
The proclamation by the country indicated that the victory of Adwa has united Ethiopia. It also mentioned that Ethiopians constitute the second largest foreign community in the country and urged all residents to appreciate the historic significance of the event and contribution of residents of Ethiopian descent.
The month is going to be celebrated in commemoration of the historic victory of Ethiopians against Italian colonial forces on 1 March 1896. This year Ethiopians at home and abroad as well as various foreigners who cherish the inspiration of the victory are preparing to celebrate the 124th anniversary of the victory on Monday, 2 March 2020.
According to Ethiopian Heritage Society in North America (EHSNA) the day will be observed for the ninth time with different ceremonies in the presence of members of Ethiopian Community, leadership of Montgomery County, and other guests.
