• “COVID-19 situation across China remains green”
ADDIS ABABA– Embassy of China in Ethiopia has expressed appreciation to Ethiopia’s sympathy, support and stance with China on battling against COVID-19 and “China will remember it forever”. The situation across China has shown positive changes, the Embassy added.
During a media briefing on the epidemic control of COVID-19 yesterday here in Addis Ababa, Ambassador Tan Jian said that fighting the spread of COVID-19 epidemic has become the top priority of China. The Ambassador added that the “containment and mitigation efforts are paying off and the situation is witnessing positive changes across China”.
According to him up to 27 February 78,824 confirmed cases and 2,788 deaths were reported in 31 provinces. He noted that 36,117 patients had been cured and discharged from hospitals where the existing confirmed cases are 39,919 now.
The situation in China is continuously improving and remains green as the number of new cases is declining. According to the numerical reports on 2 February the number of new cases was 2,829 in a day while on 26 February the number of confirmed cases were 433 and on 27 was 327. “China is confident to control the epidemic”, he noted.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Jian noted that on this critical time the people and government of Ethiopia have stood by the side of Chinese people. “The sympathy, solidarity and stance of Ethiopia with China would be remembered by the people and government of China forever”, he added that “a friend in need is a friend indeed”.
According to the Ambassador Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed has twice sent a message to express sympathy and made a telephone call with President Xi Jinping on 25 February and expressed sincere sympathies to the Chinese people.
President Sahle-Work Zewude also wrote to President Xi to express her sympathy and Foreign Minister Gedu Andargachew also wrote to State Counselor and Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi expressed solidarity with China.
“The Chinese Government and People highly appreciate Ethiopia’s stance and will never forget it, thank you Ethiopia”, Ambassador Tan Jian deeply expressed his feeling.
It was learnt that China is working with the international community to control the epidemic and leaders from over 170 countries and more than 40 international organizations have expressed their empathy, support and solidarity with China.
