Ethiopia pulls out of this week’s GERD talks in Washington: Ministry

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia will not attend talks on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) being held in Washington this weekend, the Water, Irrigation and Energy Ministry said on Wednesday.

The Ministry said in a statement yesterday that the Ethiopian negotiation team would not take part in the meeting as it has not yet completed internal consultations with stakeholders.

The Ministry said it had also sent a letter to the Secretary of the Treasury that the Ethiopian team would not attend the meeting.

Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt have been holding negotiation on the filling and operation of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) in the presence of the World Bank and Secretary of the Treasury as observers.
