Ethiopian-born tycoon’s release symbolizes Ethio-Saudi thriving ties

ADDIS ABABA- Resulting from the tireless efforts of Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed ,Ethiopian- born Saudi business tycoon Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Ali Al Amoudi was set free from prison and many also believed this latest action of Saudi is concrete evidence of the two countries ever-evolving relations.

Office of the Prime Minister confirmed Sheikh Mohammed’s release on Twitter on Sunday, saying Premier Abiy had raised the issue with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during a trip to Riyadh last May.

PM Abiy in his Millennium Hall address in further assured of the billionaire’s return. It was indicated the release of the business magnate was also one of the issues Prime Minster Abiy held with Crown Prince Mohammed during his first visit to the Kingdom earlier in 2018. According to a family office spokesman, Sheikh Mohammed had returned to his home in Jeddah.

The mogul was detained at Riyadh’s Ritz-Carlton hotel in November 2017 along with dozens of princes, officials and businessmen. The billionaire has about 74 companies in Ethiopia and the companies largely operates under the umbrella of conglomerate MIDROC (Mohammed International Development Research and Organization Companies) and provide jobs for over 40,000 employees.

According to a Forbes report last year, Sheikh Mohammed’s net worth was estimated to be 10.9 billion USD.
