* Seeks int’l status, offers scholarships to African nationals
JIMA- Jima University announced that it will strongly endure the scholarship opportunities which it has been offering to foreign national for Africans and nationals from other countries, said the University’s President Jemal Abafita (PhD).
By this Ethiopian academic year, the university has accepted 168 African nationals from the Federal Republic of Somalia, Nigeria, South Sudan, the Sudan, Somali Land and Punt Land.
Meanwhile, the University has graduated a total of 3139 students have completed their study and graduated at the ceremony of which 8 are at PhD, 699 are at Masters, while 2440 were graduated at BA level yesterday. Some 237 of all these graduates are Medical Doctors and 27 are Dentistry Doctors. 26.5 percent of the graduates are female.
Thirteen of these graduates are also international students from Rwanda and Somali-land who finalized their studies at post graduate level. The eleven students graduated from Somali Land are outcomes of branch Campus training located in Hargessa.
During the graduation ceremony, the President stated that the Jimma University is as part of its vision to become an international educational institution, it has been offering scholarship opportunities to African and other nationals. And this will be an area of high focus during the coming years, he added.
Furthermore, Students from Syria, Belgium, Philippines and Korea are also among nationals from outside Africa who are studying at Jima University.
