ADDIS ABABA – Guraghe Zone Administration Revenue Authority reported as it has collected tax revenue amounting 656 million Birr over the last six months.
Authority’s Customer Service, Tax Assessment, and Tax Collection Director Endale Adnew told The Ethiopian Herald that the Authority planned to collect 475 million Birr in regular and municipal revenue during this period.
The collected amount is higher than expected and he ascribed the achievement to the extensive awareness-raising and monitoring works the Authority carried out. “We have achieved 138 percent of our plan in six months,” he said.
He noted that the Authority investigated some businessperson who attempted to evade tax and was able to recover nine million Birr. Apart from refunding overpaid tax, legal action has been taken against 16 taxpayers who attempted to evade tax, he revealed. The Authority has planned to collect a total of 1,000,986,000 Birr this fiscal year from tax, he said.
