ADDIS ABABA – A 600 million Birr Sheger Bread Project, taking shape to a capacity of manufacturing 1.5 million loaves of bread per day, is 95 percent complete.
The plant is slated for operation by the end of February 2020, said Project Manager Eng. Sisay Debebe speaking to The Ethiopian Herald.
“The remaining tasks of the project are the roofing and electrical installations,” according to him.
The project targets lower and middle-income communities as its 90 grams-100 grams of bread products will be in good supply at all the parts of the city at an affordable price, according to him.
The project also incorporates a flour factory, he added.
He also said the government has been actively supporting the bread project works mentioning its good gesture in permitting the duty-free importation of construction materials.
Lying on a 4.1 hactare of land around, the project is said to be unique in that the entire construction activities have been done with local expertise and labor. “So far, the project offered employment to 850 people.”
Horizon Plantation Ethiopia Plc, a MIDROC affiliated company, owned the project, it was learned.
