ADDIS ABABA – Debre Berhan city has registered 10.5 billion Birr worth investment having attracted a large number of investors within the first five months of the budget year, said city administration.
City Mayor Desta Andargie told the Amharic Daily Addis Zemen that a large number of domestic and foreign investors are investing in heavy industries.
Over the last five months alone, 83 heavy industries have come to the city and are finalizing preparations to commence production in various sectors.
Of these, 40 investors have received land specially reserved for the purpose.
As to Desta, the investment opportunities would benefit more than 20,000 citizens from job opportunities.
Good governance manifested through swift delivery of service is waking up the city from decades of hibernation, he said. Debre Berhan is emerging as an industrial center in Ethiopia.
Located in the heart of Ethiopia, it’s security situation and the administration’s readiness to working hard in luring investors to one of the ancient cities of Ethiopia, said the Mayor.
In its aspiration for investment, the city administration has reserved 2,500 hectares of land for investment.
Debre Berhan is a city of stability and peace and the residents have a positive view of investors irrespective of where they are coming from, he added.
Accordingly, the city provides swift service and opens its door for both domestic and foreign investors who have the willingness to invest.
