New direction requires public universities to install security camera

ADDIS ABABA – Ministry of Science and Higher Education has set a direction that requires all public higher education institutions to install security camera in a move to safeguard the safety and security of the respective academic community.

The security cameras will be installed at the gates of the universities, Ministry’s Public Relation Director Dechasa Gurmu told The Ethiopian Herald.

“The move will prevent an unauthorized entry to the premises of the universities.”

According to him, some universities have already installed the system on their own initiative, and the direction will help to scale up their practices.

The University of Gondar, Jimma University, Hawassa University, Addis Ababa University, Wachamo University are among the institutions that have been using the system, he said.

The move is crucial to avert conflicts arising at some universities, he said.
