ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia’s path to prosperity is in full gear and in decisive stage of the struggle against idleness, said Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
Addressing a record gathering of Ethiopians at Imperial Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, the Premier further said Sunday that he is confident enough to say Ethiopia will prosper and become a better place to live in this world in the coming ten years.
As to him, Ethiopia will dramatically reduce the current poverty rate which stands around 25 percent to 10 percent and will be a land of opportunity for its citizens, fellow Africans and others in the shortest period of time.
In his speech, he urged Ethiopians living in South Africa to work in unison and come back to sweet home in a bid to share their considerable work and life experience to the public at large.
“If we look back our past glories, Ethiopia was one of the centers of human civilization in many aspects. Ethiopia was the origins of Agriculture, but now our country is suffering from food insecurity despite owning nine big rivers and 12 lakes.”
He also told the members of the Ethiopian diaspora that Ethiopia used to offer refuge to many countries in the past; however, it is sad to see numerous Ethiopians risking their lives to go to other countries for better life.
Therefore, the premier called on all Ethiopians to join hands against illegal migration and particularly those who passed through a lot of hardship to reach to South Africa have to discourage fellow citizens at home from making such dangerous journey.
Abiy, moreover, underlined that Ethiopia is at crucial juncture in its history as the reform has begun to gather momentum. “No one stop Ethiopia’s prosperity and transformation disseminating unfounded information on Facebook or using other social media or blocking roads.”
It is to be recalled that at the invitation of President Cyril Ramaphosa, the Ethiopian Prime Minister flew to South Africa last Friday for a two-day official state visit.
