Prime Minister Abiy met Pope Francis

ADDIS ABABA– In the his last leg of the Rome visit, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed met with His Holiness Pope Francis, head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City and discussed on common issues of mutual interest between Ethiopia and the Vatican city, disclosed the Prime Minister Office.

PM Dr. Abiy also met Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See to discuss issues of mutual interest. Pope Francis is the head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State.

Francis is the first Jesuit pope, the first from the Americas, the first from the Southern Hemisphere, and the first pope from outside Europe since the Syrian Gregory III, who reigned in the 8th century.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed visited St Stephen of the Abyssinians Church located in Vatican City. He was received by Cardinal Berhane Yesus, who recognized the PM for the peace bridge that has been built between Ethiopia and Eritrea on his initiation, the Office revealed.
