ADDIS ABABA– FDRE Sport Commission said that second phase construction of Adey Abeba National Stadium will be accomplished within two and half years.
Elias Shekure, FDRE Sport Commission Commissioner said that out of the ongoing constructions, building stadiums has been given due attention by government that to ensure sport development across the nation. In this regard, Adeye Abeba National Stadium is unique with its capacity of holding 60,000 spectators within chairs and more than 2,000 seats for VIP.
The stadium covers 48.8 hectares of land with the facilities of more than 1,000 toilets, 3,500 parking dots, adequate floodlights, super markets, four main entrances, running track, swimming pool, tennis playing, and the like.
According to the Commissioner, the stadium’s construction has two phases that the first phase is accomplished 98.5 percent. However, the first phase construction has passed through different challenges especially shortage of foreign currency which was serious challenge.
Regardless of the challenges, the second phase construction will continue some days after the necessary procurement is fully completed. The only remaining process is singing agreement and immediately after it is taking place, the construction will be started, he said.
Melese Lemma, General Manager of Mesel Haile Engineering (MHE) Construction which is a home grown construction consultant told The Ethiopian Herald that Adey Abeba Stadium is huge in the country and fulfilling the international standard.
This stadium has also paid due attention to create conducive situation for disable spectators starting from walking to sitting in their specific area. It plays significant role by engaging misfortune citizens equally in normative sport arena.
Furthermore, the action has also a vital role in changing society’s negative attitude towards disabled citizens in addition to ensuring holistic development in Ethiopia.
Government has allocated more than 2.4 billion Birr for this fiscal year alone and it is recalled that the construction agreement was signed with China State Construction Company four years ago while the consulting work is underway by Mesel Haile Engineering.
