Forum highlights need for tackling FDI challenges

ADDIS ABABA – Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia (MoFA) organized a consultative forum to discuss on ways to tackle challenges in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI).

On his opening remark, Foreign Affairs Minister Gedu Andargachew said that following the ongoing reform of the country, the number of foreign investors coming to the country is increasing; however there are gaps in properly welcoming, convincing and engaging them to invest in preferred sectors. Then, organizing such forums are vital to address the challenges observed by foreign investors, he stated.

Ambassador Girma Biru, Macro-economic Advisor to the Prime Minister, for his part said many foreign investors prefer Ethiopia to invest because of its conducive environment for investment.

There upon, the ambassador suggested that “we should tackle problems regarding with foreign investors through increasing our national problem-solving capacity”. During the discussion, it was highlighted that problem of infrastructure, foreign currency, tax related bureaucracies; logistics related issues are among the challenges faced investors.

Ministers, members of the macroe conomic group Board of the Investment Commission, higher government officials and other stakes were attended the forum.
