ADDIS ABABA – The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia said talks are underway with various funders to secure all the remaining finance required to the upcoming general elections.
So far, the Board obtained 2.6 billion Birr from the Ethiopian government, and signed a 40-million USD project agreement with the UNDP, Board Communication Advisor Soliana Shimelis told The Ethiopian Herald yesterday.
The European Union (EU) and the U.S. government and other entities have been showing keen interest in availing the remaining fund, she added. She also expressed her belief that the rest of the fund will be channeled to the Board shortly following the signing of project agreements. The Board said it would require four billion Birr for the upcoming general elections, it was learnt.
