ADDIS ABABA -The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) announced it will soon install four-hundred deposit-enabled Automated Teller Machines (ATM) in major places across the country.
The bank is endeavoring to make the service state-of-the-art and second to none at this point, Corporate Communication Director Yabsera Kebede told The Ethiopian Herald.
Indicating as CBE managed to install two thousand and seven hundred ATM that provide its customers with effective service around the clock; Yabsera said the number of ATM users has shot to 5.5 million at a national scale.
The cash machines will enable deposit in Birr and also offers exchange service, it was learnt. Yabsera further stressed that acquainting customers with ATM was to some extent a tough job.
“Putting print and electronic media outlets and a wide spectrum of documentaries into effect, CBE has played a major role in raising awareness among the general public.”
He continued, “However, as time went by, the bank managed to get to the bottom of the problem in a little while. Though a single ATM card costs three hundred Birr, the bank gives out the card free of charge to make the lives of its customers so much the better.”
Some years ago, joining longer queues to get the bank services whatever the amount of money they would like to withdraw and get other related services were undeniable fact.
He went on to say, “CBE is a huge institution in which more than 1.2 million transactions are carried out a day. Undeniably, interrupting the service for a while affects the bank in the blink of an eye. We are working in cooperation with Ethio-Telecom concerning network problems.
Regarding blackouts he said: “As automated teller machines bring into play computerized technology, they take some time until they become operational afresh. Hence, customers will waste some time. As the bank possesses standby generators in all branches, customers can get everything they want with no trouble,” he concluded.
