Premier, IGAD condemn Nairobi cowardly attack

ADDIS ABABA- Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) have separately condemned the attack on innocent civilians in Nairobi, Kenya by suspected terrorists on a luxury hotel complex that killed at least 15 people.

The premier strongly condemned the senseless violent attacks committed on innocent civilians. He expressed his and Ethiopians sincere condolences to the families of the bereaved and to all Kenyans in this time of mourning. IGAD Executive Secretary Ambassador Mahboub Maalim has also strongly condemned the “cowardly and reprehensible attack” on Dusit Complex in Nairobi.

He expressed IGAD’s heartfelt condolences to the families of the bereaved and wished quick and full recovery to the injured. “At this moment of grief IGAD reaffirms its solidarity with the people and Government of Kenya in their fight against terrorism and violent extremism.

Ambassador Maalim commends the gallantry of Kenyan security forces and emergency services for their swift response to the attack, noting that their action helped save many lives. He expressed confidence that the perpetrators, organizers and sponsors of the attack will be brought to justice as soon as possible. The Executive Secretary stated that “such barbaric attacks must not be allowed to weaken our collective determination to eliminate the scourge of terrorism from our region.”
