Ministry launches new mines investment solution

Second Ethiopian International Mining Conference approaching

ADDIS ABABA- Mining Cadaster System, which was launched recently would ease the licensing process for foreign direct investors who are interested to engage in the mining business in Ethiopia, said the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP)

MoMP Minister Dr. Samuel Urkato told The Ethiopian Herald that the system makes Ethiopia the fifth country in Africa to have the world class technology in its development platform of the mining sector.

“They will have all the information about the Ethiopian mining sector, about the minerals, and the places they are found. As a result, they would be able to decide on which mining sector to invest on and complete their licensing process and make the payment online with visa card from any part of the world they may be”.

It is also noted that the effort that the Ministry is exerting to modernize the sector would attract investors.

Samuel also said the second Ethiopian International Mining Conference and Bazar will take place here on the 25th and 26th November 2019. Including the existing 197 international mining investment companies in the Country, several others from different parts of the world are expected to take part in the exhibition.

It will be a good opportunity for both local and international mining companies to exchange experiences, information about the existing opportunities and ways towards a future partnership. Detailed studies that would showcase the status and investment opportunities of the mining sector in Ethiopia, (an investment platform) will be presented for the participants. “Currently Ethiopia is creating enabling conditions for mining investment.

Several reform activities, in terms of improving laws, regulations and general procedures, have been done over the past twelve months. We will introduce this reform to the International investors,” said Samuel.

According to him the past and current political commitment in Ethiopia is highly different. The conference is also aimed at showing companies, who are interested to invest in Ethiopia, that there is a good commitment and different procedural inconveniences are improved.
