ADDIS ABABA – Ministry of Women, Children and Youth (MoWCY) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) have celebrated the 30th international and the 14th national children day under the theme “capture the future with children of today.”
During the celebration of the day at MoWCY, Alemitu Omod, State Minister for Children Affairs said it should be considered that vulnerable children need special societal support coupled with celebrating children day. The overall goal of celebrating the day is to change the way children are viewed and treated by the society and to improve children’s welfare, she added.
While visiting Integrated Family Service Organization recently in connection with the day, the Minister also acknowledged such organizations which are investing on vulnerable children. The ministry also donated Birr 30,000 and children materials for the organization.
Kibri Hailu, Children’s Right and Security Director under the Ministry told The Ethiopian Herald that the number includes street children and returnees from different African and Middle Eastern countries. And they have returned to their family after getting rehabilitation provided by the ministry at national level.
Similarly, employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have also observed the International Day of Children along with International Day of the Physically Disabled, according to a press release from the Ministry.
During the event which is coordinated by the Women, Children and Youth Directorate of the Ministry, State Minister of Foreign Affairs Hirut Zemene lauded the attention which the di-diplomatic community gave to both issues.
Director of Women, Children and Youth Directorate with the Ministry Almaz Gebeyaw on her part said the Ministry is working with due attention to these sections of the community. Accordingly, the ministry has so far donated educational materials worth Birr 234,900 to humanitarian organizations that support children at risk and the physically disabled. It is also raising 10 orphans with money that the Ministry staff raised by contributing 2 percent of their monthly salary.
She further indicated that the Ministry is also doing its best to make sure that buildings fulfill rampage and is also making preparations to open child care center there.
