ADDIS ABABA – Association of Ethiopian and American professional engineers signed memorandum of understanding (MOU) on 8 November 2019.
The MOU is aimed to create unity between the two countries’ professionals. At the signing ceremony former President of Professional Engineers to Washington DC Engineer Girma Allaro said that the agreement is what I have been waiting for a long time. The future is bright in whatever we do be it in construction and design. The agreement is expected to bring out the opportunities what we have missed so far due to lack of agreement, he pointed out.
Casey Stringer, Broughton Construction General Manager, for his part said that, the MOU is signed between the professionals is historic for the two nations. There are lots of thing that they can share from their technologies and experiences. There is a diverse resource in Ethiopia that they can develop.
In addition, Casey insisted an opportunity to find a better construction materials and technologies for Ethiopia. Those technologies will add efficiency and help for the housing demand in the country added Casey. President, Association of Ethiopian Architects Amanuel Teshome, said that, the MOU will go a long way for sharing experiences and skills with counterparts in USA, Particularly in DC. A lot development projects are taking place in the country. So, having such agreement will help us to have a quality to the maximum of US. The association is looking forward and this MOU is expected to bring changes in the country says Amanuel.
President of Ethiopian Civil Engineers Engineer Tesfaye Werkineh, marked the day as a historic day. The MOU will give both country and city best knowledge. We expect a good result from the agreements and though it is the beginning, it is a great opportunity for the growing city like Addis Ababa. Especially, coding is what we have planned to apply urgently in Addis, added Engineer Tesfaye.
Rudy Seikaly, CEO at MCN Build Washington, District Of Columbia said that, Ethiopians have done a tremendous job in the country. They helped us a lot in constructing mega cities and others. Specially, Engineer Girma Allaro was the head while coding the Baltimore city insisted Rudy. “I feel Karma coming to Ethiopia because many of engineers here are prominent people at the USA. I hope many engineering companies are expected to come to Ethiopia”.
Girma stressed that every building has to be inspected by licensed professionals. It should come through Architects, civil engineers and other concerned bodies. Ethiopian building ethics have to be revised by the professional, as to him.In addition, accountability has to be there stressed the association. This is a very good tool and we have to use it for the betterment of the country. Recognition should be given to the MOU made among professionals, added engineers that attended the event.
