Armenia to open Embassy in Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA – Armenian Government made a decision on couple of days ago to open an Embassy in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (seat: Addis Ababa), Armenia News.

Nebiyat Getachew, Spokesperson at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told The Ethiopian Herald that Armenian Foreign Minister, H.E. Zohrab Mnatsakanyan on his visit to Ethiopia on April 2019 have disclosed his country’s interest to open an embassy in Ethiopia in a bid to further strengthen the bilateral and multilateral ties between the two countries.

Nebiyat also said that the opening of Armenian Embassy in Ethiopia helps to strengthen the last three decade’s diplomatic relation of the two countries.

According to the News report, Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan said that “Ethiopia is currently a rapidly growing country registering a rise in international relations. Addis Ababa is one of the main political centers of the African continent, with the headquarters of the African Union, and all African countries are members of the African Union without exception”.

The opening of an Embassy in Addis Ababa will give Armenia an opportunity not only to establish close bilateral relations with Ethiopia, but also to deepen contacts and cooperation with other African countries. Moreover, the establishment of the Armenian diplomatic representation in Ethiopia will enable the development of co-operation with the African Union, the news reported.

It was learnt that Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, commended Ethiopia’s reform agenda and the country’s role in the promotion of regional peace and stability while he was discussing with State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, H.E. Dr. Markos Tekle last April.

Nebiyat also added that number of Embassies in Ethiopia would hit 129 embassies 47 international organizations while Ethiopia has 46 Embassies and 14 Consulate Generals worldwide.
