Preparation has been finalized to conduct the 4th National Housing and Population Census that was due to be conducted last year but parliament postponed it owing to security reasons, The Ethiopian Herald learnt.
Agency Public Relations and Information Distribution Directorate Director, Safi Gemedi, said that the census would be carried out this year though the specific date is still undecided. “CSA has completed pre-census technical tasks such as preparing census maps, questionnaires and data analysis.
The map differentiates rural areas from urban and contains 150 to 200 families respectively,” Safi noted. Around 190,000 -200,000 counters and nearly 38,000 supervisors will be dispatched to 152,000 selected areas, he said.
And 180,000 tablate computers with geographical map applications have been procured to facilitate the census, he noted adding that the 4th round census will be unique in that unlike the previous ones, participants will be equipped with technological application and critical trainings.
He added that the community has also great role in enhancing it by showing interest in feeding the necessary information to be counted understanding the benefit census has in development. Ethiopia used to make census every 10 years to collect full information about the population to assist the government plan infrastructures and basic governmental services to use the available resources equitably and reasonably, he explained the purpose.
United Nations Population Fund is a leading partner of CSA, working closely with them to ensure that it is implemented in accordance with international standards and best practices.
