Ethio-China ties gather new momentum

ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed reaffirmed Ethiopia’s unfaltering stance in taking the Ethio-Chinese relations to new heights.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Wang Yi commended the reform actions led by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and reaffirmed his country’s all-round assistance to its effectiveness. Later yesterday, the Premier conferred with the Chinese Foreign Minister, who paid a state visit to Ethiopia, on ways and means of keeping the momentum of the age-long relations of the two sisterly countries.

Following the talks, Prime Minister’s Office Digital Media and Foreign Languages Affairs Head Bilene Seyoum told media correspondents that both sides agreed to enhance their countries’ close relations. Earlier in the day, Wang held discussions with his Ethiopian Counterpart Dr. Workheh Gebeyehu. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu appreciated Chinese foreign policy of non-interference on the internal affairs of other countries.

He added that the twoside relations are not only on a bilateral basis but it is also reflected in China-Africa relations. For his part, Wang indicated that China will seize the investment opportunity the new administration has opened up. China is committed to strengthen the financial and political relations with Ethiopia as the latter is strategic to cement China-Africa ties, Wang said. Ethio-Chinese bilateral relations started in the 1970s.
