France to host 6th Replenishment Conference on October

ADDIS ABABA – The Embassy of France to Ethiopia announced that the country has been partnering with Ethiopian stakeholders so as to mobilize attention towards the 6th Replenishment Conference of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria that it will host next month.

In statement it sent to The Ethiopian Herald, the Embassy stated that it hosted yesterday an event that aims to provide an opportunity to gather all relevant stakeholders before the Conference, and to highlight the efforts made at national and continental level in order to mobilize resources for the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

According to French Embassy, such events envision to mobilize political commitment for the 6th Replenishment Conference of the Global Fund, underlining the added value of the Global Fund investments in terms of health and social outcomes, as well as contribution to the universal health coverage agenda in support to Sustainable Development Goal 3.

“The events provide an opportunity to share the commitments of the Government of Ethiopia to the effective functioning of the Global Fund and to reflect Ethiopia’s leadership role in the region,” said the Embassy. The event will also be used as platform to advocate for increased donor contributions from foreign missions including implementing country missions and through civil society organizations.

The Conference aims to raise new funds and mobilize partners towards ending AIDS, TB and malaria by 2030 in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals. Held once every three years, the Conference convenes leaders from governments, civil society, the private sector and communities affected by the three most devastating infectious diseases.

The 6th Replenishment Conference of the Global Fund is expected to raise funds for the period 2020 through 2022. It is the first time that France will host a Global Fund Replenishment Conference.
