ADDIS ABABA – The Embassy of Israel in Ethiopia has donated digital IT equipment to Stempower Ethiopia in a bid to enhance digital literacy and technological empowerment among the country’s youth.
The donation, comprising six laptops, three desktop computers, and a printer, was officially handed over by Ambassador Avraham Neguise (PhD) to Simenew Keskes (PhD), Country Director of Stempower Ethiopia, during a ceremony held at the organization’s FabLab facility.
During the visit, the Embassy delegation toured Stempower’s workshop, which produces locally made science kits and serves as an incubation center for young startups. Amb. Avraham underscored Israel’s global reputation as a “startup nation,” remarking, “Good minds create a nation, but those minds must be nurtured through access and opportunity.”
He noted that the donation is part of Israel’s broader commitment to supporting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education in Ethiopia, aimed at fostering innovation and unlocking the country’s immense youth potential.
Ethiopia is known to possess vast untapped renewable energy resources—particularly geothermal energy. Experts have emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to harness these sustainable resources effectively.
Speaking at the event, Simenew Keskes stated that the donation goes beyond material support. “This contribution is not just a gift; it represents a shared vision between Stempower and the Israeli Embassy to invest in Ethiopia’s innovation ecosystem,” he said. He added that the initiative would help nurture a new generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators.
Both parties expressed their belief in the transformative power of technology and education in uplifting communities. Simenew emphasized that the collaboration marks a promising start to further initiatives aimed at empowering Ethiopia’s youth.
Experts have pointed out that strengthening partnerships with the Ethiopian government is crucial for transforming the country’s renewable energy landscape, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and contributing to global sustainability efforts.
The Embassy also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Israel-Ethiopia relations by promoting partnerships across government institutions, the private sector, and civil society. It was also noted that several Israeli organizations are actively working to deepen diplomatic and development cooperation between the two nations.
