ADDIS ABABA – Wolkite University has announced that its College of Business and Economics at the Butajira campus will begin admitting students next year.
In an interview with the Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA), the University’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, Habte Dula (PhD), stated that the college was established in response to a request from the local community during the tenure of former Prime Minister HailemariamDesalegn.
Accordingly, the university established the campus to improve accessibility and benefit the local community, he noted.
Habte said that the university has invested in infrastructure to prepare for student intake in the coming year.
According to him, the campus includes staff housing, classrooms, various offices, cafeterias, student dormitories, and has established criteria for regular students to enroll in the college.
He added that the government is working to ensure quality education at all levels, and the university is striving to expand its branches with a focus on quality learning that supports national development.
Habte further mentioned that the university is actively working to complete the remaining tasks in the coming months, including the provision of chairs, computers, and other educational materials.
However, he noted that academic programs requiring large laboratories will not be launched in the 2026 academic year due to limited infrastructure and budget constraints.
Habte stated that higher education institutions should play a vital role in lifting the country out of poverty by conducting robust research that supports sustainable development nationwide.
In this regard, Wolkite University is undertaking various initiatives to ensure the quality of education and to address the challenges facing the local community, he remarked.
The launch of the campus was delayed for a long time, causing public dissatisfaction.
