Ethiopia secures over 3.179 bln USD from tourism

. Plans to double inflow

ADDIS ABABA – Tourism has enabled Ethiopia to earn 3.179 billion USD from foreign visitors in the year 2018/2019 fiscal year, The Ethiopian Herald learnt.

Ministry of Culture and Tourism Communication Directorate Acting Director Tariku Negash told that Ethiopia bagged over 3.179 billion USD, in an interview with The Ethiopian Herald.

“This amount of money was collected from 849,122 international tourists who paid a visit to Ethiopia in the prior budget year,” he specified.

As well, the ministry has planned to increase the muber of tourists to about 1.5 million international and 27 million inland  tourists through implementing information technology for data digitalization, he added.

“The number of local tourism has been increasing promptly especially on cultural and holiday events,” he remarked, adding that the ministry is striving to boost tourism revenues by folding visitors inflow.
