
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian Airlines has signed an agreement with Panasonic Avionics Corporation to install the advanced Astrova in-flight entertainment system on its upcoming fleet of Boeing 777X aircraft.
The agreement is marking a significant step in the airline’s commitment to enhancing passenger experience.
The deal will see Astrova line-fitted on eight Boeing 777-9 aircraft currently on order, with the first expected to enter service in 2028. The agreement signals Panasonic Avionics’ growing footprint in Africa and reinforces Ethiopian Airlines’ vision of delivering a premium, technologically advanced onboard experience.
Astrova, Panasonic Avionics’ latest innovation in In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity (IFEC), features industry-leading 4K OLED HDR10+ displays and premium Bluetooth® audio capabilities. The system offers passengers cinema-quality visuals and immersive audio, complemented by up to 100W of USB-C direct current power at each seat to enable fast charging of smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other electronic devices throughout all flight phases.
Additional features of the Astrova system include customizable LED lighting designed to enhance comfort and ambiance while allowing airlines to tailor the cabin environment.

Ethiopian Airlines continues to position itself as a pioneer in aviation technology on the continent. The carrier was the first African airline to introduce the Boeing 767 (1984), Boeing 777 (2010), and Boeing 787 Dreamliner (2012), and it is set to become the first in Africa to operate the Boeing 777X.
