Abay introduces printing machine to counter forgery

ADDIS ABABA – Abay Printing and Paper Packaging Factory is set to commence the first secret printing in the country that counters forgery starting from the Ethiopian New Year.

Tadesse Melesh, Factory Managing Director told The Ethiopian Herald that Abay has reached an agreement with a foreign company to launch the first secret printing operations in the country.

The secret printing machine publishes education credentials, bank cheque, share certificates, ownership verification and other personal documents.

In addition, as it started using new printing technologies, it has significantly increased its capacity.

While it published 1.2 million textbooks in the previous fiscal year, it has managed to publish 1.4 million textbooks in the first two months of this fiscal year. Currently, it has printing capacity to publish 78, 000 books in a day.

Having 175 employees, the company has earned revenue of 73.1 million Birr in the previous fiscal year.

Power outages, shortage of input, and foreign currency have been the major challenges the company has been facing in accomplishing its targets.
