Service finalizes plans to launch geriatric training for nurses

ADDIS ABABA – Esey Nursing Home has finalized all necessary preparations to launch a specialized geriatric care training program for nurses within a month, aiming to address the shortage of skilled professionals in the sector.

In an exclusive interview with The Ethiopian Herald, Esey Nursing Home Founder and CEO Genet Habtamu stated that the institution has initiated a range of services, including medical care, nursing home services, home-based care, training for care experts, and geriatric day care. Services are categorized based on the level of support required: fully dependent, partially dependent, and independent care.

“The upcoming geriatric care training for nurses is designed to bridge the existing manpower gap in elderly care and improve service quality across the sector,” Genet said.

The primary focus of Esey Nursing Home is to serve the elderly and vulnerable populations. As part of its long-term vision, the institution plans to establish an international-standard geriatric hospital and expand its operations to other regional states.

“Our facility is committed to providing long-term care services in a safe, nurturing, and empowering environment,” Genet added. The service portfolio includes medical care, nutritional support, palliative care, home-based services, physiotherapy, spiritual care, geriatric day care, consultation, and more.

Esey Nursing Home Founder and Chairperson Aragew Haile emphasized the institution’s role in shaping the future of geriatric care in Ethiopia. “We are actively contributing to the development of a geriatric care curriculum, with the goal of becoming a center of excellence in the field,” he noted.

According to Aragew, the care process includes initial inquiries and first calls, thorough assessments, personalized care plan development, continuous support, special care situations, and end-of-care or discharge procedures.

He further stressed that the service strives to set a new benchmark in long-term care, meeting the diverse needs of elders and vulnerable groups at affordable rates.
