Premier stresses promoting unity , giving in Eid wishes

ADDIS ABABA – Muslims worldwide celebrate Eid al-Fitr, a festival of thanksgiving, charity, and brotherhood. This joyous occasion marks the end of fasting and encourages reflection, generosity, and unity, said Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD).

In his message for this year’s Eid al-Fitr, the premier stated that Eid is a time to express gratitude for the patience and strength gained during Ramadan.

He emphasized that fasting highlights human limitations, reinforcing the importance of self-discipline and spiritual renewal. The greatest challenge, he noted, is not controlling others but mastering self-control.

According to him, charity is a core value of Eid, encouraging people to help those in need regardless of background. True fasting, he added, is complete when generosity is practiced, fostering social responsibility and justice.

“Eid promotes unity, encouraging forgiveness and understanding. Embracing these values in daily life can strengthen societies and build a more compassionate world.”

The premier urged fellow citizens to practice gratitude, charity, and brotherhood year-round. By doing so, he said, communities can move toward a future defined by peace and solidarity.
