ADDIS ABABA – As preparations for the 1446th Eid al-Fitr near completion, the Addis Ababa Islamic Affairs Supreme Council (AAIASC) has extended its best wishes and religious guidance to the city’s Muslim community.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, AAIASC Deputy President Sheikh Fetihudin Haji Zeyinu announced that all necessary preparations have been finalized to mark the holiday in accordance with Islamic values.
He emphasized that Eid al-Fitr should be observed in a spirit of peace, unity, and mutual support. “The celebration is a reflection of Islamic values centered on peace and harmony. We encourage all participants to work closely with event organizers and security forces to ensure a smooth and respectful observance,” he stated.
Sheikh Fetihudin also urged the Muslim community to uphold the virtues practiced during Ramadan, such as compassion, generosity, and solidarity.
Meanwhile, AAIASC General Secretary Sheikh Hussein Beshir reaffirmed that the council does not support any activities that deviate from the religious essence of the holiday. “Eid observance should be limited to Salat (prayer) and Takbira (religious chants). There should be no activities beyond the spiritual purpose of the occasion,” he emphasized.
To ensure a harmonious and well-organized Eid prayer, the council is coordinating with government bodies, youth associations, and the Eid celebration committee. The Eid Salat will take place in the morning at Addis Ababa Stadium.
The official holiday date will be determined based on moon sighting, with Eid al-Fitr expected to fall on either Sunday or Monday, Sheikh Hussein added.
