ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian Airlines’ remarkable success is rooted in its robust organizational culture, clear vision, and unwavering commitment, according to Group Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) Lemma Yadecha.
Speaking to local media, Lemma emphasized that the airline’s institutional capacity, efficient service delivery, and strong work ethic have been pivotal in establishing it as the continent’s leading flag carrier.
He highlighted the airline’s growth since its inception in 1945 with only six aircraft, crediting its focus on customer-centric services, advanced technologies, and a highly skilled workforce.
Ethiopian Airlines prioritizes comprehensive capacity-building initiatives to develop competent professionals and modernize the aviation sector, driving its ambitious expansion plans.
Lemma stressed the importance of cultivating a generational work culture built on trust, confidentiality, and core principles, which have enhanced the airline’s regional, continental, and global reputation and operational efficiency.
The airline is actively pursuing its goal of becoming a top 20 global aviation group, with strategic plans to expand its fleet and route network by 2035.
Currently generating over 7 billion USD in annual revenue, Ethiopian Airlines aims to achieve 25 billion USD by 2035.
“We currently operate 160 aircraft, serving over 22 domestic and 141 international destinations,” Lemma stated.
As Africa’s largest airline, Ethiopian Airlines plays a crucial role in supporting the African Union’s objectives by enhancing mobility and connectivity. The airline plans to expand its fleet to 270 aircraft and serve 209 destinations.
The company reported revenue of 7 billion USD for the 2023/24 fiscal year, up from 6.1 billion USD in 2022/23.
