Ethiopia to be Africa’s prosperity icon by 2030: Premier

. Recognizes corporates, individuals in Black Lion Hospital renovation

ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed announced Ethiopia’s new vision to become Africa’s leading economy by 2030 at an event organized to brief development partners and the diplomatic community on Ethiopia’s Homegrown Economic Reforms yesterday.

Recapping some of the key milestones achieved in shifting the economic landscape, PM Abiy laid out the vision of the homegrown economic reforms agenda that will propel Ethiopia to become the African icon of prosperity by 2030.

Towards this aim, he called upon development partners to continue strengthening their support.

Meanwhile, the Premier gave certificates of appreciation on Sunday for corporates and individuals that took part in the renovation of Black Lion Hospital’s eight internal medicine inpatient wards in response to the 2019 National Summer volunteer call by the government. He  paid a visit to the renovated facilities with Health Minister Dr. Amin Aman and other officials.

Abiy noted that the companies and individuals are taking part in the restoration work not for they are being rich financially, but they are rich mentally and envisioned to improve the livelihoods of their fellow citizens. The success witnessed in changing the Hospital’s facilities also showcased the fact that the country is in a good shape to transform the health sector to better stage.

It was stated that eight volunteer corporates and individuals including MIDROC Technology Group, Arsho Medical Laboratory and ABH Partners Private Limited Company had participated in the renovation of wards in Black Lion Hospital. The restoration of each ward consumes 3-6 million Birr.

Health Minister Dr. Amir Aman said on the occasion that currently volunteer companies and individuals have been restoring seven hospitals in Addis Ababa and the renovation of Black Lion’s remaining 34 wards scheduled to be completed till the end of the forthcoming Ethiopian New Year. Hospitals restoration activities would also be expanded to state levels.

The Prime Minister also inaugurated the 320 million Birr block that has the capacity of over 300 beds at St. Paul Specialized Hospital. The construction of the new edifice is fully funded by the government.

In related development, over 200 members of Ethiopian foreign missions, consulates and Ministry of Foreign Affairs staff visited the Office of the Prime Minister and National Palace on Sunday to see the renovation works. Following their visit, the diplomats met with Prime Minister Abiy who encouraged them to mobilize investment and tourism flows.
