NEBE finalizing preparation to hold Sidama referendum

ADDIS ABABA – The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) said it has prepared plan and budget to hold the referendum on November 13/2019 to decide on the Sidama people’s request for a regional state status.

Briefing members of the media yesterday, NEBE Chair Birtukan Midekesa said the Board has organized discussions with stakeholders regarding the procedures of the referendum starting from today.

The Board is also planning to hold joint discussions with security forces to  conduct the referendum peacefully.

Birtukan also said the Board has also finalized preparation to undertake the ongoing reform at the main office to branch offices at the state level. Accordingly, it is reorganizing its branch offices.

“All stakeholders will take part in the selection of state branch officials and the whole process will be announced to the media,” she said.

The process will follow the same standard as that of the selection of NEBE Board Members.
