Ethiopia to join countries with e-commerce digital platform

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia announced that it is on the final stage to start and operate digital e-commerce platforms.

On the launching occasion of UNCTAD’s 2019 Digital Economy Report yesterday, Tesfachew Teferi (PhD), Principal Advisor at the Ethiopian Investment Commission said that Ethiopia is on the final stage to start and operate the digital platform.

As to Dr. Tesfachew, despite most developing countries are afraid of the risk to generate digital intelligence, Ethiopia is becoming among leading countries ready to launch an e-commerce platform under The Ministry of Innovation and Technology.

David Luke (PhD), Coordinator at African Trade Policy Centre, UN EconomicCommission for Africa on his part stated that the launched report by UNCTAD is an alarm for most African countries to engage themselves to the digital economy which the entire world requests.

Adding to the point, he revealed that the uniqueness of the platform is not only for its technology, but it is also a source of wealth as the experience of the USA and Chinese governments indicated on the report.

Moreover, Dr. Tesfachew avowed that Ethiopia is planning to deliver its services via digital technologies. As an illustration, the government has built an ICT Park apart from encouraging local and foreign software developers in line with the reform activity of the country.

David has appreciated the successful welcoming technology of Ethiopia.
