Premier showers with leadership prizes

ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed was awarded a number of prizes and received acknowledgments from various international organizations for the constructive roles and positive results brought by his reformist leadership since he came to power.

Recently, he won the Hessian award that honors him for his outstanding achievement to the historic peace declaration with Eritrea. He will receive the award this September. “Abiy is one of the great hopes in the African continent. We want to honor his commitment to peace with the Hessian Peace Prize and at the same time continue to promote it,” says Nicole Deitelhoff, Head of Peace Research Institute Frankfurt in a statement posted on the organization website.

Abiy also received several awards for his leadership and positive role to ensure peace in the Horn of Africa. He recently won World Tourism Award in leadership. The African union in collaboration with United Nations Economic Commission for Africa granted the 2018 African Gender Award to Abiy for his deeds to ensure gender equality.

The PM also received the highest Ugandan medal from President Yoweri Museveni when the country celebrates this year national heroes’ day. Similarly, Abiy received the highest UAE’s award for his significant role to the rapprochement between Ethiopia and Eritrea.

Abiy is named as laureate of the 2019 edition of the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Peace Prize for his actions in the Horn region and, in particular, for having been the instigator of a peace agreement between Ethiopia and Eritrea.

Abiy also named among the 100 world influentials of the year by the TIME magazine in leadership. Likewise, he is also one of the global thinkers mentioned by Foreign Policy’s 10th annual special edition of Global Thinkers.

In addition, the premier is among the 100 influentials selected by New Africa Magazine and African Leadership magazine as African of the Year 2018. Abiy was also nominated as world Nobel peace prize candidate of 2019, it was learnt.
