Researches on CRGE propelling Ethiopia’s green push: Experts

ADDIS ABABA – Researches on Ethiopia’s Climate-Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) strategy are helping frame and enrich the country’s green ambition, according to experts in the sector.

Abebe Damte (PhD), senior research fellow at Policy Studies Institute, said that researches and studies on CRGE are increasing both in numbers and quality, which is allowing them to play a constructive role in framing the country’s green efforts as well as in enriching policy contents. And as to him, this is helping to establish conducive national climate adaptation strategy.

Given that Ethiopia is on the frontier when it comes to combating climate change, and is achieving results at the same time, means that these researches and studies done on the strategy are of paramount importance to the country’s lofty green ambitions, he added.

Professor Fekadu Beyene is Commissioner of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Commission. He says that Ethiopia has set the Climate- Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) Strategy to become a middle income country by 2025 by building an eco-friendly economy with net-zero emission.

For him, researches and studies conducted on the strategy are helpful in providing research-based evidence to national climate change factors, and in encouraging the government to check its approaches regarding the issue. He also noted that the researches are productive in helping hone various national strategy engagement, and align the goals of the second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP II) in line with set standards as well resources.

“The Strategy is fully mainstreamed into the Country’s development plans, Growth and Transformation Plan II (GTP II) and guiding green initiatives,” he concluded.
