STEMpower shines at the World Robotics Olympiad 2024

ADDIS ABABA – STEMpower has announced its successful participation at the World Robotics Olympiad (WRO) 2024, held at Fuar İzmir, in Turkey under the theme, Earth Allies, as to the press release issued for Ethiopian Herald.

Sharing his thought on the greatest milestone, Simenew Keskes (PhD), STEMPower, Country Director, noted that being part of the World Robotics Olympiad International Robotics Competition 2024 is an incredible honor and a reflection of STEMpower continuous commitment to empowering young innovators.

“By providing them with the tools and skills to tackle both Africa’s challenges and global issues, we are fostering a new generation of visionary problem-solvers,” he underscores.

The participation in this global event serves as a source of inspiration for students across Ethiopia and other African nations within the STEMpower network. It motivates them to fully utilize the resources at their STEM Centers, hone their skills, and create innovative projects that can drive meaningful change worldwide, as to him.

Furthermore, he stressed that the achievement was made possible through strategic partnerships with the World Robotics Olympiad (WRO), UNECA, Google, and Candem Education, reflecting a shared vision of promoting STEM education and innovation across Africa.

As STEMpower continues to expand its programs and centers across the continent, it remains steadfast in its mission to inspire innovation, promote collaboration, and reaffirm thetransformative power of STEM education, he added.

STEMpower’s participation highlights its commitment to empowering young African innovators with the tools and skills necessary to contribute to global technological advancements. By fostering creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving through STEM education, STEMpower equips youth to compete and thrive on the international stage.

Representing Ethiopia, the Kotebe STEM Center team—Bereket Assefa, Kidist Altaseb, and Leul Mesfin-demonstrated their ingenuity and technical expertise with the ADABTA Multipurpose Robot. This innovative project aims to revolutionize agriculture, healthcare, and industrial sectors, underscoring the potential of STEM-driven solutions to transform industries and improve lives. The team earned their place on the global stage as winners of Ethiopia’s National Robotics Competition.

The event brought together over 3,400 attendees, including 1,400 competitors from 564 teams representing 90 countries, showcasing cutting-edge robotics innovations designed to address the world’s most pressing challenges, it was learned.
