ADDIS ABABA– The Ethiopian Health Insurance Service unveiled a plan to increase the number of its customers,which are estimated to be 12 million, by 10 percent.
Ethiopian Health Insurance Service, Chief Executive Officer, Kefyalew Moti told the Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA) that his organization was able to increase its customers by half a million last year and has planned to boost this number by 10 percent.
Highlighting that customer’s saving has reached around 12 billion Birr, he said that similar plan is set to increase prepayment by 10 percent this year.
According to the CEO, the Service is putting utmost efforts to settle similar amount of savings at zonal and state level. Accordingly, it is delivering training for concerned bodies to connect the saving at a given data center.
Mentioning that the service is digitalizing health insurance services system, he mentioned that activities are underway to link the document of customers irrespective of their location to one data center.
So far, the service has digitalized its service in Borena zone and Addis Ababa in which basic documents have been uploaded on website. Apart from those states that could not be connected through the system, he said, the rest have begun digitalizing their service.
“The Service will introduce new payment mechanism that is said to allow customers make payment as per to their capacity. Making three prices available, the government would cover the payment for customers that cannot afford to pay,” he stressed.
The CEO indicated that the society has come to a better understanding of the service even on areas that are facing instability, exemplifying the performance of Oromia and Amhara states which has showed 90 and 65 percent performance respectively.
