Dr. Abiy holds talks with Japan’s PM Shinzo Abe

ADDIS ABABA (FBC) – Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and his delegation met with Japan’s Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe in a bilateral discussion during the sev­enth Tokyo International Conference on African Development TICAD7).

Prime Minister Dr. Abiy briefed Prime Minister Abe on Ethiopia’s ongoing polit­ical and economic reforms. He shared the vision of making Ethiopia one of the top 5 leading economies in Af­rica through the homegrown economic re­forms currently in the pipeline, according to office of the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Dr. Abiy called upon the Government of Japan’s support for this initiative as well as for Japa­nese business investments in agriculture, tourism, ICT and mining.

Lastly, the Ethiopian Prime Minister requested Prime Min­ister Abe to facilitate work op­portunities for skilled youth in various sectors in Japan. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe ex­pressed his support for Prime Minister Dr. Abiy and the do­mestic reforms being under­taken by the government, the office added.

He also acknowledged the role of Ethiopia in promoting peace with Eritrea; in South Sudan talks and Prime Minister Dr. Abiy’s role in the Sudan agree­ments.

He affirmed continued support for Prime Minister Dr. Abiy and Ethiopia and shared particular assistance for the construction of the Jimma-Chida road.

In a related development, Prime Minister Dr. Abiy attended the TICAD7 Special Conference on Peace and Stability in the Horn of Africa with Prime Min­ister Abe.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Dr. Abiy shared the region’s progress in peace and stability, calling upon Horn region lead­ers to invest in intensive jobs creation efforts.

He also highlighted the im­portance of regional econom­ic integration, espoused in the MEDEMER (togetherness) philosophy, as a pillar for sus­tainable peace.
