Focuses on women’s economic empowerment, solution for multidimensional problems

ADDIS ABABA – Knowing full well the multifaceted advantage of maximizing women’s economic empowerment, added tasks are underway, disclosed Ministry of Women Children and Youths Affairs.

Towards stepping up women’s economic empowerment, the Ministry has been striving to arm women with the necessary knowledge, to let them embraced in cooperatives, develop a saving culture and involve in the value-chain addition related with agricultural practices. It as well is working to afford them returns from different business sectors, as to the Ministry.

Regarding this, it has deepened the awareness of more than 3,900,000 women on economic development and business creation in different ways the past fiscal year, Alemayehu Mamo Communication Assistant Head within the Ministry told to The Ethiopian Herald.

He added, following the awareness creation task, organized under the umbrella of different cooperatives women are reaping returns from small and medium enterprises, agricultural practices and the like especially in rural areas. Moreover, the Ministry had made women’s life better through preparing working shades and creating market linkages.

As to him, in line with projects which are prepared together with international organizations like European Union, UN Women, among others, it had collected about 270 million Birr and made women beneficial in business. To save women’s labor and money, it has been making them to use suitable technological equipment. This is soaring women drudgery and domestic chores. And it is creating for them a better situation. Moreover, it is seeing ways of easing their business, Alemayehu said.

He added, the ministry is dead set at warding off logjams that stands on the way towards women’s economic empowerment. It has planned to make one million women beneficiaries from cooperatives and more than 800 thousand women from small and medium enterprises. And also there is a plan to make lots of women get loans and save their money this fiscal year.
