Ethiopia, Qatar exchange views on bilateral, regional issues

ADDIS ABABA– A high-level Qatari delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani held talks here Monday with Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and President Sahle-Work Zewde on bilateral and regional issues of mutual importance.

In a statement Embassy of the State of Qatar sent to The Ethiopian Herald, Premier Abiy and Sheikh Mohammed reviewed the existing bilateral relations of the two sisterly countries and prospects of enhancing the ties. The two sides also exchanged views on key areas of bilateral cooperation that had commenced during Prime Minister Abiy’s visit to Qatar in March 2019.

During the meeting with President Sahle- Work, Sheikh Mohammed conveyed the message of Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to the President of Ethiopia and his wishes for the Ethiopian people; more progress and development.

 Information obtained from Office of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia indicated that Qatar’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his country’s readiness to begin realizing some of the investment initiatives agreed upon previously, particularly in hotels, sugar factory, tourism sector development and construction of a new kidney treatment hospital.

The meetings were attended by Jassim bin Saif Al-Sulaiti, Qatar’s Minister of Transport and Communications, and other members of the delegation, including Ahmad Al-Basti, the Chargé d’affaires of the State of Qatar’s Embassy in Addis Ababa.
