Come rain or shine a reliable ally

Come rain or shine, Ethiopia is an unfailing partner to neighbors. That holds true under any condition and any circumstance. It has been a marked and trustworthy country especially when it comes to the maintenance of peace and security in the region. It has been dispatching peace keepers helpful to the burying of the hatchet. Ethiopia is therefore a guardian of peace and a neutralizer of a conflict-rocked region. This could not be gainsaid.

In the altar of regional peacekeeping, many Ethiopians from both genders have sacrificed their lives. This Ethiopian virtue was there. It goes down in the annals of history that Ethiopia had played quite a role for the maintenance of global peace as witnessed in Korean War. Its diplomatic bent towards both friends and foes has continued unaltered. The incumbent has made this sentiment to pick pace.

Since it took power the government has been trying to taw the ice between Ethiopia and Eritrea and to help bring a breath of fresh air in Sudan and Somaliland. At home it also exercises prudence in handling conflicts that arise in otherwise resilient Ethiopia. It addresses knotty cases cool headedly.

To enhance common growth and chemistry, it comes up with forward-looking and courageous initiatives. At this juncture, it is appropriate to mention Ethiopia’s, recent, sea-access deal with Somaliland. Peaceful coexistence and cordiality are at the kernel of its relationship. This is made possible thanks to its relation with friendly countries in the region and beyond. This was underscored by PM Abiy Ahmed (Ph.D) this week.

Addressing lawmakers relating to the outgoing fiscal year, reiterating his conviction towards the peaceful settlement of conflicts, the PM noted Ethiopia is doing its level best towards the full translation of the Pretoria peace deal into action.

He underlined Ethiopia’s diplomacy is based on common growth and partnership citing as an example Ethiopia’s unflagging support in electric supply while Sudan was in difficult times. Nor did Ethiopia take back its territories encroached on by Sudanese troops thinking fishing in troubled waters.

He related to the parliament that friendly Ethiopia is averse to marring Somalia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Instead of crisscrossing the world for an amicable solution discussion with top leaders of Ethiopia could easily straighten seemingly-knotty issues. Regarding access to the sea, asking good gestures from neighbors Ethiopia has managed to strike a deal with Somaliland.

This does not mean it infringes on the rights of Somalia. Had we had a diabolic intention of destabilizing a neighboring nation we would not have dispatched out soldiers to Somalia to maintain peace. As Ethiopia espouses a win–win approach, neighboring coastal regions must give a heeding ear to Ethiopia, a trustworthy and a friendly ally nation.

Highlighting Ethiopia’s role in the regional peace and its enthusiasm for partnership, he said as the fates of countries in the region are interwoven, clicking with one another for common growth and affluence is mandatory. Allies for common good all must be imbued with this sentiment down the road.

To address the crisis affecting commercial routes around Red Sea Ethiopia is ready to work with peace-seekers. This great nation, a country with a snowballing population and huge land and water resource, is one of the big economies in east Africa. Facts on the ground indicate it will keep this tempo of a leading powerhouse. It requires tranquility within and its neighborhood so as to ensure national interests and to spearhead its economic turnaround. Cordiality and diplomatic vibrancy remain atop its agenda when dealing with countries where the sun goes around.
