State says tourism continues to bring economic progress

ADDIS ABABA-Oromia state announced that over 34 billion Birr was injected into state’s economy over the last nine months in tourism sector.

Oromia Culture and Tourism Bureau said tourism has contributed 34 billion Birr to state’s economy activity. Approached by The Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA) the Bureau‘s Plan and Budget Director Olana Teshome stated that above 11 million local and 200,004 foreign tourists have flowed into state and visited historical sites over the last nine months.

Olana added that about 33 billion Birr was injected into the economy due to local in the local tourist flow whereas foreign tourist influx over 1 billion Birr was also secured. As to him, total of over 34 billion Birr has been injected into state’s economy in the reported period.

State has been implementing and organizing various means of activities to utilize and promote untapped state’s tourism potential using electronic media and various printing documents, as to director.

He added the bureau has been carried out various works to organize and stage exhibitions in a bid to attract investment and visitors.

Olana said, “One of the activities is disseminating tourist information on social media. In the state, festivals of Irrecha and Kulubi Gebriel, Debre Libanos monasteries, other annual religious celebrations are among the tourist attracting events and sites.”
