Prime Minister Abiy meets Pres. Putin ahead of Russia-Africa Summit

ADDIS ABABA- Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Ph.D) conferred with President Vladimir Putin yesterday in St. Petersburg ahead of the 2nd Russia-Africa Summit which begins today, according to Sputnicnews.

The premier appreciated the warm accolade given to him and his delegation upon arrival.

The premier said Russia is very close to his country in terms of culture and diplomacy and the two sides enjoyed long-standing relations.

Technology, including cyber technology, security, economic exchange, and trade are also among the areas of the two-side engagements, it was learnt.

Sputnic quoted the premier as saying: “We are extremely interested in discussing the development of our bilateral relations and regional issues with our brotherly country,” he said, adding: “This is my first time in St. Petersburg, I find it very beautiful. I know about the ties between Ethiopia and Russia in culture, diplomacy, politics. We have long-standing ties, we went through difficult moments together and I believe that this visit will help strengthen our relations.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin, for his part, said a large package of joint documents, including on information and energy, had been prepared for the premier’s visit.
