Addis transfers over 25,000 condos to residents

ADDIS ABABA – Addis Ababa City Administration transferred 25,491 condo houses to the 20/80 and 40/60 housing program beneficiaries through a condominium lottery.

Speaking at the condominium lottery ceremony, Addis Ababa City Administration Mayor AdanechAbebie yesterday said that the administration has spent over 21 billion Birr for the housing programe since 2011 E.C. so as to address residents’ growing house demand, inequality and unfair transfer. The administration has been applying integrated housing mechanisms such as joint venture, real estate, public private partnership and association mechanisms.

“Close to 300, 000 houses have been transferred to residents who were winners of the draw since the commencement of the construction of condominium houses. Side by side, the administration has created jobs in the housing development sector,” she said.

In the 4th round of 20/80 and 3rd round of 40/60 schemes, the administrations handed over 25, 491 houses to its residents identifying through a lottery draw. Customers who saved money for 60 months are eligible and selected in a row on the 14th20/80 and 3rd 40/60 round houses. Some 18,648 20/80 and 6,843 40/60 houses are transferred to residents, she added.

The 20/80 scheme houses are found in Bereket, Bole Arabesa (3, 5 and 6), Wetader village, YekaTafo, Jemmo Gara, Gorro Selassie, Furi Hannah, and Amanuel sites, and 40/60 scheme houses are found at Ayat 2, Beshalle, Bulbula and Lot 2 sites. The winners of 14th round draw for 20/80 and 3rd 40/60 will pay 7,997.17 and 11,162.97 Birr per square meter respectively, she stated.

Addis Ababa Housing Development and Administration Bureau Head Yasmin Wohabrebi on her part said that searching for other housing development alternatives is an imperative tool to solve complex housing problems of the residents. Strengthening efforts to realize the accessibility of houses in the capital is a key as a single handed move cannot solely address problems, she stated.
