#No more movement: Viable means for fueling

pan Africanism impetus

BY MENGESHA AMARE

Africa has these days started moving in unison and willing to take what is originated from Ethiopia for granted as they have confidently taken this great east African star as an emblem of independence, freedom and sovereignty since long back. For instance, all African countries have now well comprehended that what Ethiopia has taken as important is decisive for the whole continent too; basically they have been doing all this since the victory of Adwa-the feasible avenue for their emancipation.

Created by a coalition of Ethiopian and Eritrean activists led by CBS journalist Hermela Aregawi, the #NoMore campaign which is, for example, aimed at opposing the ongoing US and Western media disinformation campaign, economic warfare, diplomatic propaganda and military interventions in Africa in general, and the “Horn of Africa” in particular, has now been bearing fruits.

This movement has been spreading to allover Africa as most African countries have understood what is deliberately orchestrated to weaken Ethiopia and twist its arms thereby easily get the rest of Africa knelt down by a single utterance thrown from Washington and they have stood by the side of Ethiopia to successfully abort the ill-intention of US and the west.

Ethiopians, foreigners of Ethiopian origin as well as Ethiopians friends have been provided with gratitude and acknowledgement as they have moved in an organized manner to reverse all the futile attempts and evil deeds thrown against Ethiopia targeting at making it socially, economically, militarily and politically weak. The anti-neocolonialism #NoMore movement has been the top trending hashtag for months, indeed.

The #No more movement has helped Ethiopia make Tigray People Libration Front’s (TPLF’s) victim card game barren, and the international community started understanding the first democratically elected government of Ethiopia with its solid fact so the saying goes, “Truth will triumph in the end.”

#NoMore is thus being supported by Africans and others worldwide who oppose insurrectionist rebels in Africa as well as support nonviolent democratic reforms in the continent. The developing world especially the African continent has been suffering from undue pressure, misinformation, falsehood fabrications, partisan reporting of pertinent western media and other unknowingly or calculatingly organized defamations in favor of the one with which the west have stood. The recent global #No More marches organized by the Horn of Africa Hub are co-sponsored by the Answer Coalition and the US-based Black Alliance for Peace (BAP) which opposes ‘western military power to impose western control of African land and resources,’ among others.

Once came to power by the help of multifarious conspiracies and calculatingly meddling schemes of the aforesaid bodies, the TPLF created an ethnic apartheid system that led to two decades of reoccurring ethnic-cleansing, while mismanaging the economy to put millions plus Ethiopians dependent on foreign aid and keeping the country at the bottom of the world in GDP-per-capita rankings. When TPLF lost power thru peaceful nationwide protests in 2018, it began to sabotage the transitional government and ultimately trigger the current war for power.

Pro-democracy Tigrayans and all Ethiopian Peace activists worldwide have since demanded the TPLF rebels to stop the war and disarm. However, the group has still continuing attacking innocent civilians in Afar and Amhara states even after being swept away.

All Ethiopians residing all over the globe have staged a peaceful demonstration as part of the #NoMore movement that protests undue interventions in the domestic affairs of Ethiopia and the demonstrators opposed economic and political pressures that some corners have continued making Ethiopia give in to unfair demands.

They have also condemned the substandard stories of some notable media outlets on Ethiopia that kept on circulating misinformation about the country and its government with malicious intent.

One of the prime initiators of the #No more movement, Hermela Aregawi, recently came to Ethiopia receiving the diaspora invitation made by the Ethiopian government. Hermela said, “#No more global movement will expand to other economic and development issues particularly the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) to counter the coordinated and well-funded propaganda of some interest groups.”

According to her, there is a great commitment and desire to bolster and expand the activity to other issues of national importance. Accordingly, various activities are underway along this line. The # No more movement is of paramount importance in changing the attitudes of the majority of the international community towards Ethiopia.

She further said that journalists have to produce millions of stories on GERD and we need to start now to counter the entire futile propaganda. Noting the #No more global movement is a way of thinking and doing something different to bring about real change and improvement, the journalist stated that the movement will be expanded to a high level in various development and economic arenas.

She said, “There are opportunities to tell the real stories about Ethiopia to the world community. The role the youth will play in this regard is very decisive as they are real change engines in all national aspects. I am ready to make any kind of contribution to Ethiopia exerting utmost effort by strengthen the movement and participating in any kind of activities.”

While she becomes famous and loved by many Ethiopians for her fact reporting about the ear between TPLF and the Government of Ethiopia, Hermela and her mother have been facing threats from TPLF affiliates in the United States.

In one of her interviews, Hermela’s mother Professor Haregewoin Assefa indicated that the reason TPLF people hate them is because they refused to tell lies about Tigray genocide. Professor Haregewoin, who was teaching at Mekelle University when the war broke out in November 2020 said, “I can’t talk about what I haven’t seen…that is why they hate us.”

The #No more movement has attracted almost all Africans as it has opened avenue for trekking towards freedom and independence. Ethiopians across the globe have been well aware of the western ill-intended mission and the march they fuel is as meaningful as military operations against anti-peace elements. The rise of the #Ethiopian movement is the result of long-standing resentment of and resistance to white domination.

The Ethiopian movement arose years back when black people were developing a strong sense of self-worth, spirit of pan-nationalism, dignity and independence fostered by young people from the African continent coming together. This produced a solidarity which provided a basis for pan Africanism and a critical freedom spirit.

The Ethiopian spirit was nursed in a political climate in which whites were aggressively expanding their spheres of influence throughout the African subcontinent.

The essence of pan Africanism that firmly constitutes African nationalism is a political movement for the unification of Africa, national self-determination and the transformation of African identity. This unity has been challenging racism and ethnocentrism as well as celebrating Africans freedom and sovereignty.

Ethiopians living in Europe and North America on have recently organized a demonstration in 27 cities. They protested intervention in the internal affairs of Ethiopia and western support to the terrorist Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF). Their # No more movement coupled with the pan Africanism initiative is of significantly useful in fueling the march for freedom throughout the continent and spillovers to the black people residing in various developing and developed states of the world outside of the continent. Besides, their movement has shown remarkable progress and a number of improvements have been recorded.

Eritreans, as has been the case at least since the TPLF lost power about three years ago, came out in support of the Ethiopian cause and have been participating in a number of rallies targeting at revealing the reality on the ground about Ethiopia to the rest of the world. Eritrea has been victim of undue foreign pressure for several decades and much of it was apparently orchestrated by the TPLF-which ruled Ethiopia for nearly three decades with the support of western powers, primarily the United States and the United Kingdom.

Cognizant of the fact that being victims of undue intervention and calculatingly applied conspiracy, Eritrea has been by the side of Ethiopia and even the rest of African countries are now well aware of the organized movement the west have carried out to make Africa submissive to their neocolonial scheme.

In nut shell, the #No more movement has prettily fueled the pan Africanism spirit and inculcated the essence of cooperation and fraternity in the minds of continent’s generation. The emergence of independent states in the African continent has been creating institutional and ideological openings to realize African unity. Yet the achievement of state sovereignty also worked to stymie more radical visions of Pan-Africanism. If the tempo ignited by the whole African people right now keeps at the same rate, pan Africanism will bear fruits within the shortest time possible. Africa prevails, and so does Ethiopia!
