Why do Americans care for us? Is that for the sake of Ethiopian interest or for their need? In its recent publication, Bloomberg has jotted down some points why Americans should intervene in the local affairs of the nation.
In his article, the writer has tried to convince (it is better to say to fool) readers that America is the only and the true guardian of Ethiopian peace and stability. However, what he missed is that, like that of CNN, the BBC, Aljazeera and other Western affiliated media, the writer has failed to mention the true desire of the West and Ethiopia`s sovereignty. While the peace and stability of the country is in the hands of Ethiopians, the writer has portrayed America (which is currently acting like a wolf in sheep`s clothing) as the guardian angel of the Ethiopian people.
While the ethnic diversity of the nation is a source of unity, the writer has tried to compare Ethiopia’s case with that of the Balkan’s where diversity is the source of conflict and chaos. The truth is, Ethiopia, as a land of more than 115 million people, is founded on concrete mutual interest where the socio-cultural identity of diverse people is respected and valued.
Though the terrorist TPLF junta and its drivers have used the ethnic diversity of the nation for their own advantage, the strong social and cultural bondage that exists among Ethiopians is still strong. This cultural tie is reflected lately when the terrorist TPLF enterprise tried to distract the stability of the nation and when the West sneaked around.
According to the writer, as a land more than 1.5 times the size of Texas, Ethiopia has strategic importance. It has economic and political significance in the Horn of Africa. What is more, as the center where the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the AU are found, the nation has regional as well as continental significance.
During his conversation with the former U.S Ambassador to the African Union, Reuben Brigity, the writer, has become sure that Ethiopia is central to overall politics and security on the continent. For this reason, no matter how sovereign Ethiopia is, all measures the West is taking (including the carrot and stick approach) acceptable.
Indeed, Ethiopia is not only the hub of different nations and nationalities. It is the hub of Africa and the symbol of freedom. Despite the fact that the writer has failed to mention how strong Ethiopians are when it comes to aggressors, Ethiopians courageous fight against the invaders have contributed its share to set the EU quarter in Addis Ababa.
Ethiopia`s geopolitical location had once invited the West and Eastern powers to compete for political dominance in the region. This is witnessed starting from the time of the Imperial regime and had its climax when the Dergue regime and the USSR strengthened their socio political relations. With the fall of the former USSR and the change of political structures in the Horn, Ethiopia`s relation has returned back to the West and to some relative degree with the East.
Ethiopia`s significance to the West has witnessed several times where the Ethiopian forces sacrificed their priceless lives to fight against the Al-Shabab and when they were dispatched to Sudan representing the Peace keeping Force.
It is already known that the Horn of Africa and the Sahel region is the breeding place of terrorist groups and gangs. However, a strong presence of Ethiopia in the Horn and its strong commitment to preserve the peace and stability of the region has contributed a lot for regional stability. No matter how hard the geopolitical situation of the region, Ethiopia has been playing a key role in this regard.
As has been repeatedly indicated by Western affiliated media and their writers, the U.S government is doing its level best to help Ethiopia in settling its difference with the terrorist TPLF. However, the truth is, the U.S government is not trying to settle the difference. Instead, it is helping the terrorist groups to hold power and stir the political stability of the nation. The attempt of putting the carrots and sticks strategy which is being used by the U.S government does not reflect the effort of the West to stabilize regional political turmoil. Instead, it is serving as a catalyst to ferment the ongoing conflict. All the attempts of the West to cripple the Ethiopian government through their media do not reflect “support”. Instead, it is a clear manifestation of siding with a terrorist group.
The recent public rally that was held lately in Addis Ababa against the Western media (CNN, BBC, Aljazeera, The Economics and others) still reflects a strong Ethiopian sentiment that would not easily be broken for propaganda and terrorists’ dreams.
As it was recently indicated by one of the founders of the TPLF- Gidey Zeratsion, the group is warmongering and driven by superior complexity targeting to destroy the Amhara ethnic group. According to him, while the Amhara State is trying all its best to live in harmony with its neighbors, the TPLF junta has always been following the opposite direction. This is a clear indication how the junta and its drivers rose to destroy Ethiopia.
Ethiopia`s instability truly affects the stability of not only the Horn but also the whole Africa. However, the recent activities of the U.S and its allies seem to have forgotten this fact. All the attempts to put back the terrorist TPLF junta clashes America`s concern for Ethiopian stability. What is more, an attempt to use the stick and carrot strategy on Ethiopia totally violates the principles Americans are founded or they claimed to be founded.
