President Sahlework Zewdie partakes on the Second UN Global Sustainable Transport Conference
On her virtual participation on the second United Nations global sustainable transport conference the president expresses her desire for the conference to pay attention for landlocked countries such as Ethiopia.
She has also noted that Ethiopia’s allocation of 11 percent of its annual budget to road infrastructure indicates its priority for the transport sector and significance.
She has noted that focus on transport infrastructure development including like light rail in the country facilitates economic development enhancing material and human movement between rural and urban areas.
The UN indicated that “the conference will provide an opportunity to focus attention on the opportunities, challenges and solutions towards achieving sustainable transport worldwide”.
The conference was hold in Beijing, China.
North Korea, Palestine congratulate Abiy for forming new gov’t
The North Korean Prime Minister Kim Tok-hun and the President of Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas have sent congratulatory message to Abiy Ahmed (PhD) for his reelection as Prime Minister of Ethiopia and forming new government.
According to Spokesperson Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the North Korean Prime Minister Kim Tok-hun has sent congratulatory message to Abiy Ahmed (PhD) on the occasion of his reelection as Prime Minister of Ethiopia. Premier expressed commitment to work towards strengthening the existing bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Similarly, the President of Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, has sent congratulatory message to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) for his reelection as Prime Minister of Ethiopia.
Office of Spokesperson of MoFA said that President Abbas expressed his goodwill wishes to all Ethiopians for the new administration becomes an instrument to progress and prosperity of the nation.
It was also to be recalled that top leaders of China, Russia, North Korea, Vietnam, Qatar, Turkey, South Korea and several countries leaders including African leaders have congratulated Abiy for his election as Prime Minister of Ethiopia.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen talks with his Slovania’s counter, Anže Logar
On the telephone conversation he made with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, H.E. Anže Logar Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia Demeke Mekonnen said that the recent EU Resolution on Ethiopia biased, unacceptable.
Demeke briefed Logar the current situation in the Northern part of Ethiopia and the efforts being undertaken by the Ethiopian government to deliver humanitarian support to Tigray.
He also explained in detail the attacks carried out by the TPLF in the Amhara and Afar Regions and how it destroyed the livelihood of civilians in the two regions, adding Demeke said the TPLF is diverting the more than 420 trucks that entered Tigray to deliver humanitarian aid for military purposes.
He also briefed the Slovenian Minister on the Ethiopian government’s rationale to expel the seven UN staff from the country.
He told the minister that the recent resolution by the EU Parliament was unacceptable since it is unjustified and biased that overlooked facts on the ground. Additionally, Demeke reiterated that the TPLF should stop its fighting and attacks on civilians.
The foreign minister of Slovenia, on his part, thanked Demeke for the briefing and said that as the current chair of the EU commission he has concerns on the humanitarian situation in Ethiopia and the ongoing fighting.
He also expressed his concern over the expulsion of the UN staff which will affect humanitarian support activities.
Demeke hold talks with delegates of various countries
On the margins of the ongoing 39th Session of the Executive Council of the AU, Demeke Mekonnen, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia had held discussions with delegates of various countries.
Accordingly he discussed with the Minister of External Relations and International Cooperation of Burundi, Amb. Albert Shingiro, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liberia, Amb. Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Algeria, Ramtane Lamamra on ways to cement relationships and advance bilateral cooperation between the sisterly countries.
During his discussion with Ramtane Lamamra, the ministers examined ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Algeria. They discussed bilateral and regional issues as well as current issues in Africa and internationally.
Ministers of Foreign Affairs of South Sudan, Russia send congratulatory message for Demeke Mokonen
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan, Mayiik Ayii Deng, has sent a congratulatory message to Demeke Mekonnen on his reappointment as the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia.
The South Sudanese Foreign Minister expressed his hope that Demeke would give renewed impetus to the longstanding and historical relationship between the two countries.
Similarly Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov congratulated Demeke Mekonnen on his reappointment as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.
In his telegram message, Lavrov said, “I am ready for our further collaboration to expand friendly Russian-Ethiopian relations, enhance cooperation in political, commercial, economic and other spheres for the benefit of peoples of our countries, in the interest of strengthening stability and security in the Horn of Africa and on the African continent as a whole.”
Ethiopians living in the UK had gathered at a fundraising event, which was held under the theme “One Thousand Dinners for the Renaissance Dam”. They reaffirmed the commitment and unity of the Ethiopian community in the UK towards Ethiopia’s development endeavors.
More than 1,000 members of the Ethiopian Community were gathered to raise vital funds for the completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
The event was organized by the Ethiopian Embassy in London in collaboration with GERD Support Network UK and Ireland.
Ethiopians in Bahrain also celebrated Flag Day on October 11, 2021 in the presence of the Consul General of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Ambassador Jemal Beker, and religious leaders in the premises of the Consulate.
At the event, Ambassador Jemal said the Day marks the renewal of our commitment to protect the interests of Ethiopia and ward off adversaries that threaten to eclipse the country’s journey to prosperity.
He further called on Ethiopians to stand together and work diligently to register fruitful results in the development endeavors of their country.
Similarly, Ethiopian Embassy in Djibouti celebrated the 14th National Flag Day on October 11, 2021. Ambassador of Ethiopia to Djibouti, Berhanu Tsegaye, diplomats, members of the Defense Forces, and the Mission staff attended the event.
Delivering a speech at the event, Ambassador Berhanu said Ethiopians are celebrating this year’s Flag Day following the successful democratic election in the country that heralds the beginning a new era of unity, peace, and prosperity. He called on Ethiopians living in Djibouti to be united and continue to give prompt responses to the calls of the people and the government of Ethiopia in times of need.
