Presidents of different countries congratulate Prime Minister Abiy for new Premiership
President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, has sent a congratulatory message to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on his election as Prime Minister of Ethiopia.
In a telegram message, President Putin reiterated that the Russian-Ethiopian relations are based on good traditions of friendship and mutual respect.
He said he trusted that the Prime Minister’s activity as the Head of Government would further facilitate the development of the bilateral cooperation of the two countries in various spheres for the benefit of the peoples of the two nations, in the interest of strengthening security and stability on the African continent.
Similarly, Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki and President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has sent a congratulatory message to Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, on his re-election as prime minister.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, sent similar messages to the Ethiopian Prime Minister.
The leaders expressed optimism that the respective countries historical relations with Ethiopia will be invigorated during Abiy’s leadership. They wished good health for the premier and peace and prosperity to Ethiopia.
Apart from this, it is to be recalled that many African leaders, who attended the Inaugural ceremony of PM Abiy Ahmed on Monday (October 04), congratulated the Ethiopian people for the successful election they held and offered full support to the premier in his endeavor to bring peace and prosperity to the country and the region.
Presidents of Djibouti, Kenya, Nigeria, South Sudan, Somalia, Senegal, Uganda, and the Prime Minister of DR Congo have expressed their best wishes and congratulated the newly elected prime minister. The presidents wished the premier every success as well as good health and wellbeing.
Demeke Mekonnen meets Head of African Affairs Division of Israel Foreign Ministry
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Demeke Mekonnen received this week, Head of African Affairs Division of Israel Foreign Ministry, H.E. Bar-Li Sharon at his office.
During their discussion, Demeke noted the long-standing diplomatic relationship of Ethiopia and Israel which is marked by strong historical and religious ties.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister further said Ethiopia is keen to scale up the relationship with Israel with further engagements in technology and agriculture as well as peace and security issues.
Adding to his briefing on the establishment of the new government in Ethiopia, Demeke called on Israel to understand the reality on the ground regarding the situation in the northern part of Ethiopia.
He said the pressures to impose sanctions against Ethiopia did not take into account the cooperative spirit and hand that the Ethiopian government has extended to humanitarian agencies operating in the country.
Appreciating to the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister’s briefing on the situation in Ethiopia, Bar-Ali Sharon expressed Israel’s interest to further scale up the already strong relationship of the two countries.
She also said she would convey the issues raised by Demeke Mekonnen during their meeting, to authorities in her government.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen bids farewell to outgoing Italian, Zambian Ambassadors
While receiving outgoing Italian Ambassador H.E Arturo LUZZ, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, H.E. Demeke Mekonnen commended the longstanding ties between the two countries and called on Italian companies to invest more in Ethiopia.
He, in particular, lauded the role of Salini Impregilo, which continued to engage in the construction of the GERD withstanding all challenges.
Ambassador Arturo LUZZ, for his part, noted fruitful results of the multifaceted reform that Ethiopia has been undertaking for the last three years. He also expressed his confidence that the country would diligently solve the current problems it is facing.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, has also bade farewell this week to the departing Ambassador of Zambia to Ethiopia, Ambassador Emmanuel Mumbaba.
Demeke appreciated the strong relationship and cooperation at various forums between the two countries that helped them forge a long-standing diplomatic relationship that started during the struggle against colonialism.
Ambassador Emmanuel, on his part, congratulated Demeke on his reappointment as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia following the successful formation of the new Ethiopian government.
He also underlined that the two countries should strive to strengthen economic ties and conduct joint commissions meetings to boost their bilateral and multilateral relations.
Recalling the formation of the joint commission between the two countries in 2017, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister said Ethiopia is committed to the implementation of the agreements signed between the two countries.
Finally, Demeke Mekonnen wished the ambassadors more fruitful years ahead in their career.
Ethiopian Diaspora community in Belgium, Luxembourg protest EU Parliament Resolution
The Ethiopian diaspora in Belgium and Luxembourg issued a letter protesting the imbalanced resolution issued by the European Parliament.
Lauding the genuine concern and support of the EU in addressing the humanitarian crisis in affected regions, the community called on the parliament to have an objective and impartial assessment of the conflict.
The community called on the parliament to hold the TPLF accountable for attacking Ethiopia’s Northern Command in a preemptive strike that sparked the conflict that we are witnessing today.
As part of its commitment to tarnishing the image of Ethiopia, the group devised a scheme to obstruct aid to the Tigray region at the cost of innocent lives, they said.
The community urged the parliament to give attention to the plight of people in the Afar and Amhara regions who are suffering from deliberate attacks against their lives and properties by the TPLF.
They also urged the European Parliament to take note of the misdeeds of some aid agencies that tampered with data to influence policy decisions against the interest of the people and government of Ethiopia.
Although the parliament issued the resolution recently, the community had sent the letter to the parliament urging it to consider pivotal issues regarding the conflict in the northern part of the country.
Ambassador Teferi Melesse attends Addis Fine Art’s new gallery space, in London
This week, Ambassador Teferi Melesse attended the opening of Addis Fine Art’s new gallery space, located in the heart of London.
The event also marked the gallery’s inaugural exhibition which featured new paintings by Ethio-Israeli painter, Nirit Takele. “The Space between Us”, which is Nirit’s second solo exhibition with Addis Fine Art in London, features cylindrical paintings – reminiscent of the rounded forms of Fernand Léger – offer an insight into the Beta Israel or Ethiopian Israeli community.
On the occasion, Ambassador Teferi congratulated Nirit for her wonderful artwork and applauded Addis Fine Art for their efforts in showcasing Ethiopian Contemporary Art and culture to a global audience. Ambassador Teferi vowed to continue working with the gallery to promote Ethiopian Art and artists in the UK.
